Fergus du Plessis celebrating the Festival of Holi, which anticipates the coming of spring and colour in the Gorkha province of Nepal. Fergus is on a ten week volunteering programme with Raleigh International which involves supporting some of the poorest members of the community who live in remote mountain villages without running water or electricity. These villages were among the worst hit in the 2015 earthquake. The volunteers have been involved in digging trenches for water pipes and sanitation, they also visit schools to talk about the projects. The volunteering programme is followed by a 250 km trek to familiarise them with the communities and environment. We look forward to hearing him talk about his experiences on his return. |
